TEAM

Matthew Gonnella
Attorney
Matthew Gonnella, the founder of Gonnella Law, is passionate about providing compassionate, accessible, and responsive legal services to immigrants facing some of life’s most difficult challenges. A proud son of a single mother of four from Syracuse, New York, Attorney Gonnella focuses his practice on defending the rights of immigrants and refugees in removal proceedings, as well as advocating for individuals seeking asylum, special immigrant juvenile status (SIJS), U-visas (for victims of crime), and T-visas (for victims of human trafficking).
His practice also includes family-based immigration matters, including marriage petitions, naturalization applications, and hardship waivers.
Attorney Gonnella graduated from Saint Anselm College in 2015 with a dual Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Spanish and a minor in French. He was a four-year member of the varsity cross country team, instilling the discipline and perseverance that continue to drive his legal career today. He went on to earn his law degree from Suffolk University Law School in 2018 and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar the same year.
Before founding Gonnella Law, Attorney Gonnella managed the immigration practice at a prominent Massachusetts law firm, where he led a team in handling a high volume of complex immigration cases. While grateful for the experience and the trust placed in him, Gonnella was motivated to build a law firm grounded in his personal values: empathy, integrity, and true client-centered service. He envisioned a firm that prioritizes direct communication, individualized attention, and affordable legal support—where every client feels seen, heard, and vigorously defended.
Attorney Gonnella has a demonstrated track record of success, having secured legal status and protection in the United States for hundreds of individuals and families. He is proud to represent courageous clients from all over the world, including individuals affected by nationally recognized immigration issues such as the Martha’s Vineyard migrant crisis. In recognition of his dedication, Attorney Gonnella was awarded the 2022 Boston Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award for his work on behalf of migrants impacted by that crisis.
At Gonnella Law, our mission is simple: to empower and guide immigrants through every stage of their legal journey with dignity and respect. Whether you are fighting deportation, applying for citizenship, or seeking protection from harm, Attorney Gonnella and his team are committed to standing by your side and advocating relentlessly on your behalf.
Matthew lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and when he’s not in the courtroom or meeting with clients, you can often find him training for his next marathon.

Alejandra Moreno
At Gonnella Law, I help ensure that every client feels supported, understood, and never alone in their legal journey. As Legal Operations Coordinator, I help to build and manage the systems that keep our firm running smoothly, so our attorneys can focus on what matters most: advocating for our clients.
I assist during consultations as an interpreter, support client communication in both English and Spanish, and help guide individuals and families through intake and onboarding with clarity and compassion. With a background in business administration, legal consulting, and project management, I work behind the scenes to uphold our values of empathy, accessibility, and responsiveness.
I’m deeply committed to creating a welcoming, human-centered experience for those navigating the immigration process. Outside of work, I sing in a women’s choir, love to travel, and volunteer each year on church missions, where I help interpret and serve local communities.
I studied Business Management at ESI School of Management in El Salvador and have completed additional training in project management, agile business practices, and the use of artificial intelligence in human management.
Immigration is deeply personal to me. I’ve seen close family and friends go through the challenges of starting over in a new country. I understand the uncertainty, the sacrifice, and the strength it takes to build a new life. That’s why I’m committed to offering not just professional support, but genuine care and understanding to every client. No one should have to navigate this journey alone.

Marcelle Alves
Law Clerk
From a young age, I knew my calling was to serve immigrant communities. At just 13 years old, I discovered my passion for immigration law—a passion that has guided my journey ever since. By 16, I had already begun interning at immigration law firms, laying the foundation for what has now become over a decade of hands-on experience in the field.
Before entering law school, I worked as an immigration paralegal, developing a deep understanding of both family- and employment-based immigration, humanitarian relief, and removal defense. I graduated from Purdue Law School in May 2025, earning the Distinguished Scholar Award and being named to the Dean’s List multiple times throughout my academic career.
University of Arizona- Bachelor of Political Science and Minor in Africana Studies
Purdue School of Law- Juris Doctor
Beyond my legal work, I am deeply committed to empowering immigrant youth and giving back to my community. I actively mentor first-generation and immigrant students who aspire to pursue higher education. On Martha’s Vineyard—my home and community—I organize “Know Your Rights” forums and partner with local nonprofits to promote awareness around immigration rights and available resources.
I bring both lived experience and legal expertise to my practice, and I remain committed to advocating for justice, dignity, and opportunity for all immigrants.
